Barcelona, <26 February 2018> — Doro, the leading provider of telecommunications devices and solutions for senior citizens, and KaiOS Technologies, maker of the emerging mobile operating system KaiOS, today announced a new Doro feature phone developed for older generations. Besides its robust form factor, the model gives users access to the Kai Store, which includes the world’s most popular apps for social media, instant messaging, navigation, games, and voice assistants.
This new Doro device fulfills a long unmet need among senior citizens: access to advanced functionalities like popular apps, video calls, and voice assistants, without having to switch to a more complex smartphone that may be harder to navigate.
“Our mission at KaiOS is to close the digital divide in societies around the world,” says Sebastien Codeville, CEO of KaiOS Technologies. “The discrepancy exists between developed and emerging markets, the wealthy and the poor, but also between different generations. This phone helps to close that gap for the latter group, as it gives senior citizens the option to enjoy the advanced functionalities of the digital revolution, but in the form factor many of them prefer.”
The KaiOS mobile operating system is developed specifically for feature phones. It’s one of only a handful of mobile operating systems capable of supporting popular third-party apps; more significantly, it is the only OS to natively support these apps on feature phones.
“Doro strives to always provide seniors with solutions that fit their needs, regardless of where a person is on their digital journey,” said Robert Puskaric, CEO of Doro. “This partnership with KaiOS Technologies provides our users with rich content that was previously limited to smartphones.”
