What is KaiOS?

KaiOS is a US-based company with additional offices in France, Germany, Taiwan, India, Brazil, Hong Kong, and mainland China. Our operating system currently powers phones in Canada, the United States, and India through partnerships with Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Reliance Jio. Our newest partners include Bullitt, Doro, and HMD/Nokia. Hence, several more countries will get access to the powerful suite of KaiOS features before the end of 2018.

KaiOS originates from the Firefox OS open-source project which started in 2011 and has continued independently from Mozilla since 2016. Today, KaiOS is a web-based operating system that enables a new category of lite phones and other IoT devices that require limited memory, while still offering a rich user experience through leading apps and services.

What we are passionate about!

Our mission is to open up new opportunities for individuals, their families, and communities by making access to advanced digital services a reality for everyone.

How is KaiOS different from other operating systems for mobile devices?

Devices running KaiOS use little technical resources to perform their tasks. Our development teams always strive to reduce memory usage and other requirements. For this reason, KaiOS-powered devices perform tasks previously only possible on smartphones. Think of features like running a store for apps, video calls, watching live TV, and so on.

KaiOS also provides new services to our partners. Examples are FOTA (over the air updates of the phone), cloud services, and analytics around network stability and connectivity.

Which devices is KaiOS compatible with?

We are currently focused on feature phones, but our platform is suitable for other connected devices (e.g. wearables, smart home, etc.) as well.

We work closely with device manufacturers (OEMs) to guarantee that you have the best possible experience. Our operating system currently powers phones in Canada, the United States, and India through partnerships with Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Reliance Jio. Our newest partners include Bullitt, Doro, and HMD/Nokia.

We are constantly entering new partnerships with manufacturers and increasing the list of available devices.
